Blondie Bar Recipe
“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinions starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around.”
– Love Actually
A lot of people like to refer to Valentine’s Day as a “Hallmark Holiday.” The thought of cupids, St. Valentine, and conversation hearts annoy them to no end. I on the other hand love the idea of celebrating love! One of my favorite movies, Love Actually, words it so well. Love is all around us. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be all about romance and spending the big bucks. Celebrate the day by showing your loved one how much you care for them. Revel in the bond between mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, sisters and brothers, friends, and family. Valentine’s Day is a nice reminder to celebrate the ones you take for granted the most! Yeah, yeah…you are probably thinking you do that all the time. It doesn’t hurt to show it just a little more! Nothing says love like handmade does. (That’s the Etsy girl in me!) If you’re in need of a last-minute idea to celebrate someone you care about, try out these Valentine’s Day blondie bars. (And for those of you who will despise the day of love no matter what, don’t worry, Hallmark doesn’t make one penny off of these!)
Valentine’s Day Blondie Bars
Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup of butter
- 2 cups of brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups of flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
- 1 cup of Valentine’s M&M’s
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9 x 13 pan with cooking spray. Place butter and brown sugar in a medium-sized saucepan and heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Let the mixture cool for 5-10 minutes. Add eggs one at a time. Stir until incorporated then add vanilla.
Next, add flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder to your mixture until combined. Add half of the chocolate chips and half of the M&M’s and stir.
Transfer mixture into your prepared pan and add remaining chocolate chips and M&M’s to the top! Bake for 25-30 minutes.
Let your blondie bars cool for a little bit before you cut them into squares. Enjoy! (Bonus: This dessert is perfect for any holiday. Just use whatever seasonal M&M’s are at the grocery store!)
I hope everyone has a fantastic Valentine’s Day! Make sure you tell that special someone how much you love them. (Even if you do it the other 364 days a year.) Love y’all!
